Bug #449: Volume hot keys stop responding after running for a few days

Description

After a few days of running Synergy Advance will suddenly stop responding to my increase and decrease volume hot keys, which I have set to ctrl-option-up arrow and ctrl-option-down arrow respectively. The only way to get them to work again is to quit Synergy Advance and re-launch it; previously I tried just opening the preferences, removing the hot keys and re-adding them but they still did not work.

I wasn't sure where to find any useful debug info for when this is happening so if you could point me to where to look I will gather that information the next time the problem arises and attach it here.

    Thanks for the report, John.

I've been watching trying to reproduce this issue and it hasn't happened for me yet. Has it repeated for you yet?

Is it only the volume hot keys that stop working? Do the other keys continue to function? (If so, really weird!).

So quitting and restarting Synergy Advance worked; did you try quitting and relaunching iTunes instead? Was anything printed to the system console when you tried pressing the hot keys? Did you get the system beep when pressing them (the beep you get when you press an invalid menu key combination) or was there just no action? Was iTunes doing anything special at the time of the problem (eg. running a visualizer, showing its preference window, in the iTunes Music Store etc)?

I've been seeing the same problem running your latest version under 10.4.8 on an iMac Core Duo with 2GB. Although Activity Monitor reports that Synergy Advance is using around 4% of the CPU the icon has disappeared from the menubar. Quitting iTunes doesn't seem to correct the problem. Quitting the application from the Activity Monitor and then restarting it does seem to work.

I've also got Synergy 3.1 installed.

Can't tell for certain, but the most recent occurrence of the problem seems to have begun sometime after this message appeared on the Console:

2007-03-06 14:05:29.081 Synergy[344] NSURLConnection for URL http://87.117.229.205:80/protocol_1.1 returned error: lost network connection

I encounter the same problem since updating to snow leopard osx 10.6. using v. 3.5.5a same hotkeys sometimes it "hangs" and stutters and goes completely mad. just jitters away the transparent floating window. quitting synergy from the menubar will work and solve the problem. don't know of any unusual things I am doing.

Haven't seen the issue myself. Can you try moving your preferences file out of the way to rule out that as a possible source of problem?

Ok, I didn't really understand your comment when you first posted it. But I know now what you were talking about and its now fixed, at least in the case of the volume hot keys (I couldn't reproduce the problem with any other hot keys, so the only ones I modified were the volume ones).

See ticket #1383 for more info.
