Actually, even artwork for old files don't show up for me anymore.

Yes, I've noticed the same thing. Hopefully Apple will restore the old behavior, as they have in the past when releases of iTunes temporarily broke some part of iTunes' scripting support.
In the meantime I'll see if there is any workaround that I can find.

any updates on this bug? i have thousands of albums which no longer show artwork in my floater. sadly that is the main reason i use synergy, so it looks like i'll be uninstalling until there is a fix.

seems like nothing's changed with iTunes 10.4.1 or the 10.5 betas? Maybe another way like getting the art from the file itself would be more stable and compatible w/future versions.

Any word on this bug? I had an old version of Synergy and noticed this issue (along with scrobbles not working) and decided to try out the newer version of Synergy to see if it would fix those issues. If it were fixed, I could see paying for the upgrade. As it stands, it doesn't seem worth it. Any plans to update the app to fix this bug?

Still not fixed with 4.5.1 and iTunes 10.5.1.
Is Synergy EOL? There are alternatives but been using Synergy so long, really don't want to change. And it IS exactly what I want. When it worked.

Seems to be related to running iTunes 10.5.1 in 64-bit mode. Cover art stored in tracks will correctly display if you open iTunes in 32-bit mode (even if the machine itself is running the 64-bit kernel).
Since iTunes 10.5 runs as a 64-bit app on Lion by default, it appears as broken for everyone. (This broke a number of visualizer plugins, incidentally, so Synergy isn't the only program to run into this problem.)
Hope that help

Ah, that's an excellent find, rotor glow. It would nice if Apple would fix that, but if not, we can still hope to find some other workaround.

Just FYI a number of other apps similar to Synergy seem to now be able to work with the iTunes album art fetch API after 64-bit versions of the apps were released. Looks like Synergy is going to have to be recompiled as a 64-bit native app at some point if the issue is to be fixed.

Sounds like a reasonable assessment. I initially had trouble getting any build at all working on Lion, but I'll see if I can get a 64-bit build happening.

any luck? could help beta test. :)

Bump - any luck in building a 64 bit version Wincent? Really don't want to have to force iTunes to run in 32 bit mode.... Thanks.

Not yet, I'm afraid. Still on the "to do" list.

Dang! After trying various things I am thinking of returning to Synergy as it does more of what I want. I must say YouControl Tunes is exceptional (but no keystrokes for control - am resisting adding yet another app to get that functionality). So, yeah, DANG! to come back and see this is still an issue. but perhaps the true issue is "What's the big deal of 32 v 64 bit?" I have iTunes now in 32 and it seems fine. What is the advantage to having it in 64 bit mode?

Add me to the list of people eagerly awaiting this issue to be resolved. I've still got the old version of Synergy but I'd gladly pay to upgrade to the new version if it's 64-bit and fixes this issue. :)

I'm hoping that Synergy gets fixed soon, but in the meantime, it does seem like YouControl iTunes is a good replacement for Synergy (and it also combines features of the app "I Love Stars" as well). And yes, YouControl DOES let you create keyboard shortcuts for every menu command... you just hover over the menu item with your mouse and press the keyboard shortcut that you want to use.

I finally won the battle against Xcode and was able to get a 64-bit build of Synergy together; see the Synergy 5.0a release announcement.
I consider this to be very alpha, hence the version number, but in local testing the build, combined with some reworking of the internal plumbing, has made cover art show up correctly from iTunes again.
